Welcome to the Cuyahoga County Department of Law


I am pleased to welcome you to the Cuyahoga County Department of Law’s web site.

In my nomination and confirmation process as the County’s first Director of Law, I pledged to County Executive Edward FitzGerald, the Cuyahoga County Council, and to the citizens of Cuyahoga County that I will do everything in my capacity to build and leave behind a Law Department of which our citizens will be proud for years to come. In building the Law Department, I have set the following common-sense principles for the Department to live by:

  1. Rise to the Challenge: The demands on the Law Department are many, but we must be ready to meet all challenges. Whatever it is, we will rise to the challenge.
  2. Build a Tradition of Legal Leadership and Excellence: We expect nothing short of excellence. We value leadership that is built on team work to achieve the best legal outcome.
  3. Institute a Legacy of Legal Innovation and Strategic Thinking: The law often is the solution and not the obstacle. The Law Department’s lawyers must always think of themselves first as problem solvers.

We thankfully were able to build an efficient department that lives by these principles, and we continue to improve our performance on a daily basis. As our Department evolves, our lawyers will strive to take a more active role in the County’s legal and civic organizations to collaborate and promote the betterment of Cuyahoga County.
